Student Examples
One of the primary goals for English 312 guiding students to master creating arguments for audiences who initially disagree with their claims. We start with the values essay and interview, which provides the opportunity for students to listen to and understand someone with whom they've had a disagreement in the past. This helps them gain rhetorical strategies for speaking to audiences who disagree with the claims they are arguing. Each argument is based around the enthymeme, a generative syllogism that helps students create arguments and speak to their audience through their values and fears.
